GALICIAN STRUGGLE
ENEMY IN ENORMOUS STRENGTH. MENACING THE RUSSIAN REAR. PETROGRAD, 17th June. The enemy's strength on the San ia enormous. With the new reinforcements, the Germans alone have fourteen corps concentrated in the regions of the Lubaczovka and Wisznia Rivers. - The enemy's advance on the right bank of the Lubaczovka gives him possession of the railway spanning the river, leading north-east to the Ravaruska gioup on the Lubaczovka. He is endeavouring to advance northeast, menacing the Russian rear on the Dniester, while the Wisznia group is moving in the direction of Lemberg. Official. — The Germans' attacks during the last three days at Liatzkow were unsuccessful, and ended in our lavour. Our troops in the Popeliany district crossed the Venta, the cavalry sabring hundreds of fleeing Germans. The fighting at Shavli continues with varying fortune. Some villages have fallen into the enemy's hands. The enemy is fruitlessly attempting the offensive beyond the middle Nieinen, and has sustained heavy losses. We recaptured all our advanced trenches northward of Przasnyz: The battle of the San continues with increasing fierceness. Fighting on the Tibmienica-Bystritza front continued to our advantage. We captured southward of Widacheff another 500 Germans, including fourteen officers, also four guns and six machine-guns.
