Submarine U39 destroyed the Swedish schooner Elsa. The crew were landed at Leith. The submarine's captain stated that thu Elsa was the fourth vessel he had sunk since Saturday. SHRAPNEL FIRED AT FULGENT LONDON. 3rd May. Two shrapnel shells struck the Fulgent, killing the mate at the wheel and mortally wounding the captain. ATTACK ON THE GULFLIGHT " PROBABLY ACCIDENTAL. 1 ' WASHINGTON. 4th May. Opinion in official circles is that the attack on the Gulflight was probably accidental rather than deliberate.
