NORWEGIAN STEAMER TORPEDOED
(Received May 4, 3.5 p.m.) COPENHAGEN, 3rd May. The Norwegian steamer Laila, timbei'* laden, for England, was torpedoed in the North Sea. ANOTHER VESSEL SUNK RESCUE VESSEL FIRED AT. (Received May 4, 3.15 p.m.) LONDON, 3rd May. 'The crew ot the Norwegian steamer American landed at Newcastle. She was torpedoed in the North Sea and sank in two hours. The crew of thirteen were hours in the boats, when the Norwegian mailpacket Sterling picked them up. A submarine fired two torpedoes at the Sterling, but missed her. She then chased the vessel, but eventually allowed her Co proceed. CASE OF THE GULFLIGHT PRESIDENT WILSON RESERVES HIS OPINION. (Received May 4, 3 p.m.) WASHINGTON, 3rd May. President Wilson has decided to reserve his opinion on the torpedoing of the American steamer ftulflight until official details are received. Mr. W. J.
