MAGISTRATE'S COURT
A formidable list of charge* waa brought against n. young man named Thomns Findlay at to-day's sitting of the Magistrate's Court, presided over by Mr. D, G. A. Coopor, S.M. It was as follows :— (1) Drunkenness. (2) using obscene . language, (3)_ assaulting Constable Pearoe in the execution of his duty, (4) damaging & police uniform to the extent of £3 9s 4d, (5) wilfully damaging a cab to tho extent of 15s. lftndlay pleaded guiJty, and attributed his lapse to "too much whisky " He was ordored to pay fines and damage totalling £6 4b, in default to spend 14 days in gaol For drunkenness one first offender was convicted and discharged. Ethol Darragh and Andrew Thompson were fined 20s each, in default three days in gaol, while John William Lucas and William M'Rae wore fined 10s, with the usual alternative. Sydney Saundors was remanded until the 10th Peter Murphy was ohft^cd with tha attempted theft of 10s from P«mos Booliens, a fruiterer, of Mannera-street. H« vfhß remanded for a week. Sub-Inspector M'Kinnon said' it was a oaea in whioh ringing the change was alleged. Bail was accordingly refused. Thomas Christianson wu fined 5s for being drunk, and 10s for wilfully throw* ing a piece of wood through th« window of a boarding house in Courtenay-plac*. In addition, tie was ordered to pay the cost of the damage (10s).
