DOMINION BOY SCOUTS
(By "Scoutmaster.") Kelbnrn Troop.— On Friday, 23rd April, a parents' meeting was held- in the clubroom, when the awards won by the Scouts at the recent examination held by the Royal Life-saving Society were presented. Mr. G. S. Hill, president of the local branch of the society, presented the medallions and certificates. The opportunity Was taken to swear in seven new recruits. Mr. E. S. Baldwin, Provincial Commissioner, occupied the chair and also performed the ceremony of swearing in the new boys. Scoutmaster Lawson, addressing the parents, gave an interesting resume of the work since June last, and appealed for a little more co-operation between officers and parents. On Saturday special firet-aid instruction was given in the clubroom. St. .Paul's Troop.— A record parade was held on Wednesday last Week, when forty-two Scouts were present. A large amount of excellent work was got through, and the evening was concluded with the ever-popular blindfold boxing. On Saturday the troop, went to Wilton's Bush for cooking practice. $even or eight scouts passed the test -for secondclass in this branch. We have been presented with a fine board of knots by the Northland troop. This is well executed, and shows the thoroughness of the Nprthand Jroop. Thursday, 29th April, 'marks the completion of our first year, and the occasion is being celebrated by a "pound night," to be followed by a lantei-h display and lecture by Mr. Norton, of Thorndon. Lower Hutt, Troop.— On Wednesday, the troop went over the hills scouting — marching back in close order. The marching was excellent. On Friday there were forty-seven scouts present, who honoured St. George's t)ay by singing patriotic songs for the first part of the evening. Tile remainder of the evening was devoted to tenderfoot and signalling instruction. During the evening Mr. W. Judd presented the troop -with a splendid 12-feet New Zealand Ensign. A vote of thanks to the donor was passed amid ringing cheers.
