HEAT WAVE & BUSH FIRES SYDNEY SMOTHERED IN DUST.
SYDNEY, Bth March. A heat wave is passing over many districts, and bush fires in some localities are interfering with telegraphic commttni cation. Scorching westerlies prevail. The thermometer is at 101, and the city is smothered in dust. There is great heat and droughty conditions. MANY HOMES DESTROYED. (Received March 9, 9.55 a.m.) " ' SYDNEY, This Day. Yesterday's bush fires affected an area of 350 square miles. Many homes were destroyed and other property was damaged. A cool southerly ha« improved conditions.
