FRUITGROWERS ALARMED
VESSELS COMMANDEERED TO*" CARRY MEAT. A PROTEST AND~A PERTINENT REPLY. (Received March 8, 11.30 a.m.) HOBART, This Day. Fruitgrowers are alarmed at the prospects of the Commonwealth commandeering for the carriage of meat vessels that are under contract to take fruit. The ' Treasurer, interrogated., stated that it would be improper to interfere with the Allies' foodstuffs ; the defeat of the Allies woiild make the fruitgrowing of Tasmania -worth very little.
