NEW ZEALAND ASSOCIATION. A council meeting of the New Zealand Chess Association was held last evening in the V.M.C.A. building, the following delegates being present :-*- Messrs. W. C. Hill, A. G. Fell, R. J. Barnes, E. H. Severne, W. White, and F. K. Kelling. Apologies were received from Messrs. W. E. Mason (Wellington C.C.) and J. Milesi (Wellington Working Men's Club), who were unable to attend. Mr. R. J. Barnes was voted to the chair. The hon. secretary, Mr. A. G. Fell, explained that the meeting had been convened to discuss the question of whether or not a book should be published in connection with the championship tournament recently played in Christchurch. From the data presented to the meeting it would appear that a book giving the sixty-eight gamer, of the congress, together with a brief editorial, photo., dub directory, and the usual tables, would cost about £25. In view of a number of private donations having been received in aid of the proposed book, it was decided to put the work in hand. Messrs. R. A. Cleland and 0. Balk, both of Dunedin, were appointed to make the award in connection with the three games entered for the brilliancy prizo donated by Mr. R. A. Joseph, the Christchurch vice-president of the association. A hearty vote of tl-anks to the chairman terminated the meeting.
