WELLINGTON CHAMPIONSHIP .RECORD ROUND BY ARTHUR, DUNCAN. The greens were in excellent condition at Heretaunga yesterday, when the Christinas golf tournament, with which is associated the Wellington Piovincial Amateur Championship, was commenced. There were large entries. The events decided were the qualifying round of the championship, a medal handicap in conjunction therewith, and two opening rounds of a professional match, which is being completed to-day. Further amateur handicap events were to be played to-day and on Monday, while the championship is being played out. The professionals will commence a- second match oi) Monday for a cup, presented by Mr. Arthur Myers, M.P., and to be competed for annually. During the day some splendid scores were registered, the best being by the New Zealand amateur champion (A. D. S. Duncan), who showed brilliant form m both morning and afternoon rounds. His previous record round of 69 was lowered by him in the morning, when, playinc perfect golf, he completed the coni'Pe in 68. Bogey for the course- is 80, and par reckoned at 74. But for missing two short putts in the afternoon, ho would have had an equally good ecore, for as it was he finished 'in 70.
