HIGH COMMISSIONER'S REPORT
"LONDON, 23rd Dec, 6.5 p.m. ' " Pariß reports alight progress in Belgium. A redoubt was taken east of Bethune, the French and British retook Givenchy, west of La Baseee, previously lost. In the region of Perthes les Hurltts there was a lively canhonade and two assaults. We carried the laet portion of the line partially conquered on the 21st. Our average gain was 800 yards. In the last trench we captured a machine gun section and personal material. A violent counteT-attack was repulsed. We made considerable advance over the trenches at La Grurie for a distance of 250 yards. We exploded two German mines and occupied the excavations. "Petrograd reports that in Eaet Prussia the Germans were repulsed on the line" Hefndenburg-Soldau-Lautentburg."
