INJURED IN STRIKE RIOT
— , —^ COMPENSATION TO BE GRANTED. In tho House of Representatives this afternoon the Petitions Committee roferr^d io the Government for favourable conci-doration the petition of A. J. Dockery for compensation for injuries sustained in the Taratiaki-street strike riot. Tho Prime Minister said the Government would give effect to tho recomme-ti-dation.
Fruit growers in the Manawatu are (says the Manawatu Standard) anticipating a. record fruit crop this year, the excellent early spring and the absence of Into frosts being tho chief factors allowing of good settings of fruit. The high wind which has prevailed during the last two days has affected plums slightly, but not to any appreciable extent as yet. There has been much more spraying carried out this year than previously. Messrs. Townsend and Paul will soil at auction to-morrow, at 11 o'clock, a quantity of native plants. Messrs. U. Johnston and Co. will hold a salo of household furniture and appointments, including oak bedroom suite, in their rooms), to-morrow, commcuoiug at 1,30 o'clock.
