CIRCULATION OF LIES
GERMANS ANNOYED WITH THE BOERS. UNNAMEABLE HORRORS ALLEGED. LONDON, 29th September. An Australian recently in Berlin states that among the lies circulated is one that Japan is assisting England on condition that the Japanese are allowed free access to all the colonies. The Germans are intensely annoyed at the Boers for being loyal. Every German counted upon upheavals in India and Africa, and expected that Canada and Australia would break away from the Empire. He was asked to distribute copies of a pamphlet addressed to the Evangelical Churches abroad, and signed by a number of Berlin parsons. The pamphlet alleged that the war was wantonjy thrust upon Germany, " hence the distinctions of raco, rank, and parties vanished in a holy enthusiasm." Looking to ' God, Germany is now prepared joyfully to stake all for land and liberty. Unnameable horrors, it was alleged, had been committed against Germans living peaceably abroad, against women and children, wounded, and physicians.
