c(> WELLINGTON RACING CLUB The stewards of the Wellington Racing Club in their annual report congratulate members upon the result of the year ended 31st July, 1914, the figures' fon which provide a record for the club. Notwithstanding an increase in the stakes of £5164 ss,' the surplus for the year amounts to £9342 15s lOd, from which it hasjbeen decided to write off fls follows : Freehold property and buildings, £9000; furniture, £176 Is 3d; luncheon and tea room plant, £107 19s 9d; horses, £31 12s;— in all, £9315 13s. This leaves a sum of £27 2s lOd to be carriisd to the accumulated fund. Those who agreed to guarantee the club's mortgage to finance the construction of the Trentham racecourse have now been released, the finances of 'the club having been arranged without this assistance. Substantial increases in the accommodation at both totalisator houses have been provided, during the year, also a Urge refreshment room and cloak room have been opened. The works in progress include new six, five, and four furlong racing tracks, which it is hoped will be ready for next summer meeting. It is \yith deep regret that the stewards record the death during the year of Messrs. Orton Stevens and J.,H. N. A. Burns and Mrs. Rhodes. The following office-bearers retire in accordance* with the rules, all being eligible for re-election: President, Mr. J. B. Harcourt; vice-president, Mr. W. H. S. Moorhouse; stewards, Messrs. J. W. Abbott, D. J. Nathan, and O. S. Watkins. The revenue account of the club shows substantial increases all round for the past year compared with the preceding, receipts being £46,239 as agamst £38,474. From the totalisator the receipts were £28,720, as against £23,611 for 1912-13, and gate money £4679, as against £3581. The stakes were, however, increased from £16,930 for 1912-13 to £22,094 last year, and the Government tax was increased by £1400 and other expenditure had also more or less increased. The bank balance at the close of the year stood at £8564, and the accumulated fund £14,517.
