The poll was held yesterday and resulted in the rejection of the proposal by 48 votes to 18. The Brooklyn committee appointed to assist'in augmenting tho Patriotic Fund and Mayor's Relief Fund met last evening, Mt. Alister Brown presiding. Favourable reports Were' received from subcommittees, and- offers of assistance, including half the proceeds from the entertainment to be held in Fullford'B Hall, Brooklyn, on Friday, by Mrs. D. C. Bates, in conjunction, with the , English, Church. The secretary of tho Wellington Harmonic Society, Mrs. A. A. Lemmon. kindly offered to assist in a concert which will be arranged by Messrs H. Temple White, A. Clarkson, and D. Kennedy. The Brooklyn Patriotic Dance will be held at Fullfor&'s Hall on Thursday week, the 17th September, for which Mrs. T. Chapman ha-s arranged the music. Mrs. Aulin and Mrs. Moran reported that they had received so many offers of assistance for the supper that it would not entail any expense on the committee. A proposal, ' which was favourably received, was to have a toll gate (constructed of ribbons) across the Ohiroroad and access to Brooklyn on a Saturday afternoon (provided the necessary permit is obtained), and a committee of ladies was appointed to carry it out. Mr. W. reported the offer from the country of a live sheep, and a committee was appointed to sco if it could utilise this in connection with a Jumble Sale and Entertainment to be held later on.- Mr. P. N. Denton also offered to provide a lantern entertainment with Indian views.^
