AGED AUSTRIAN EMPEROR. LONDON, 4th September. A diplomatist at Vienna, states that although the Emperor takes short walks his condition is pathetic. (It was reported a few days ago that the state of health of the Lmperor Francis Joseph was exceedingly precarious, and that his death xvas thought to be only a, matter o" hours.) ?* was not thought in Vienna that Germany would rashly jump at the chance offered by the Austro-Servian trouble to force Austria into a greater war than sho wished, and enter into Germany's long-wished-for task of .smashing Europe.
