PATRIOTIC CARNIVAL
.». Arrangements have almost been completed for the Carnival which is to take place at the Basin Reserve next Wednesday afternoon at 2.30 o'clock, in aid of the War Fund. The principal attractions will be an " Old English " cricket match, an old-timers' football match, and a gift auction. The cricket match will be played between Mayors and ex-Mayors of the Wellington district and a Parliamentary team captained by Sir Joseph Ward. A large number of ex-representa-tive New Zealand and provincial footballers have signified their willingness to take part in the old-timers' football match. Tho secretary has received numerous articles for the gift auction, among which arc a' gold watch, a violin, a stuffed king penguin in a glass case, some stamps, a chemical balance, and a stuffed kakapo, a pair of antique brass candlesticks, three kodaks, a lady's hat, and three table-centres.
