SALVAGE CLAIM
The We6tport Harbour Board has decided to obtain an . opinion from Mr. Skerrett, K.C., as to the amount whioh it could charge for salvage in connection with the refloating of the Union Company's steamer Kauri. The board's tug Mana was, it is claimed, largely instrumental in getting the Kauri afloat again, and the chairman expressed the opinion that the board should claim £IO,OOO, leaving it to the Admiralty Court to make an award. It was reported at the board meeting that tho Union Company charged £5 per hour for the use of its salvage steamer.
