(BT TELEGRAPH—SPECIAL TO THE POST.) CARTERTON, This Day. A card tourney, ■ under the auspices of the Carterton Fire Brigade, was held on Friday evening, there being aj good" attendance. The prizes were won by Miss Erskine and Mr. J. M'Guinness, the consolation prizes going to Mies Hercock and Mr. A. Bond. /Mr. W. Tucker, of Carterton, has presented a handsome silver cup as a challenge trophy to the Wairarapa and East Coast P. and A. Society, to •be awarded as the society thinks fit. It stands about 10jn high, is of sterling silver, beautifully , finished, and rests on an ebony stand.
• The Carterton Brass Band has decided to take steps, 'per means of a Carnival Queen Festival, to raise funds to purchase new instruments.
