The weather conditions prevailing at Trentham this mOfhittg were perfect. After the fog cleared the sun shone out and made the morning work pleasant. The outside of the course proper was open. The southern horses Verite and Silver Shield, who arrived the previous day, were out, but were not aaked to go fast. Cress) went once round over the steeplechase schooling fences, and shaped well. Captain Jack, tngenkender, and Paritutu went together, the last-named always holding the other pair. Crown Pearl (alohe) did half a mile with a very light boy on his back, and just broke 56sec. Silver Monarch and Tesso did two rounds on the flat, and jumped a couple ,of the steeplechase fences. Silver Monarch was under a strong pull all the way, and had Tesso well beaten. Try Fluke was better than Grand Idea at the end of six furlongs, run in. lmin 26sec. iTry Fluke made a good impression. Bluestone, the Parliamentary Handicap favourite, was not extehded. He has not been galloped fast since he came, but is reported to do well on a light preparation. He walks slightly lame, the result of striking a fence when schooling at; home. Stockade and Sunrose went together over the steeplechase fences* the former shaping best. Julian and Altcav were sent once round on the grass, the latter apparently being the better of tho pair. Cheddar, Ruatangata, arid Sam Pan were sent over the small hurdles in company.
