'*» Mr. D. G. A. Cooper, S.M., presided at to-day's sitting of the. Magistrate's Court. There was a procession of week-end inebriates. Two first-offenders'had their bail of 10s estreated, and ten others were convicted and discharged. Thonitis Donnelly was further remanded on a charge of being found helplessly drunk on Lambton-quay. A plea of guilty was entered by William Edward Hughes, who was charged with (1) drunkenness, (2) committing a grossly -indecent . act in Featherstonstreet. ' He Was convicted on tho first charge and fined £2 on the second. The alternative was fixed/ at one month in gaol. Alfred J. Chote was convicted for disobeying a maintenance order, and sentenced to fourteen days in gaol, the warrant to be suspended if 5s per week is paid off the arrears (£l3 6s). Edith Isabella Elliott was granted a summary separation order against her husband, Leonard William Elliott, on the ground of persistent cruelty. Allegations of habitual 'drunkenness were not sustained to the satisfaction of his Worship. The parties were married twelve years ago, and resided at Brooklyn. The defendant was ordered to contribute 25s per week maintenance, and to pay costs and witnesses expenses. William Colson was convicted for a. breach of a prohibition order, and was fined £1, or in default ordered to be imprisoned for fourteen days. CASES AT LOWER HUTT BY-LAW OFFENDERS DEALT WITH. No fewer than twenty by-law cases were dealt with at the Lower Hutt Court to-day. The Bench was occupied by Messrs. C Hollard and J. Cudby, J.P.'s. For riding bicycles without lights the following were dealt with as under: — Raymond Hall, Horace Steadman, George Lowe, Ernest Cunningham, John Higgins, Charles Tiller, Bertram Bird, Samuel Turner, Anthony Conroy, and William Phillip were each fined Is, with costs (7s). For driving vehicles without lights, Reginald Ryder, John M'Kay, I George Cunningham, and Louis Fleet, were similarly dealt with. On similar I charges George M'Coll and Albert Peters i were each fined ss, with costs. The more serious charge of driving a motor-lorry without sufficient lights was preferred against William Howe. Defendant was fined 10s and costs. Charged with leaving a horse and vehicle unattended, William M'lvor was fined ss, with costs.
