KING'S BIRTHDAY

WEDNESDAY'S BIG PARADE FIRING THE ROYAL SALUTE. Wednesday next, the King's Birthday, will be celebrated by a review •of the Wellington City and Suburban Territorials by General Sir lan Hamilton, Inspec-tor-General of the Overseas Forces, in Newtown Park. In addition to the Territorials a big force of bluejackets and ex-South African contingenters will parade, thus forming the biggest function of its kind yet held in Wellington. The Territorial Forces will -be divided into two battalions, the review commencing at 9.30 a.m. It had been intended at first that the Royal Salute of 21 guns should be fired by the Royal New Zealand Artillery (Permanent Force) from Mount Cook Barracks, but this arrangement has now been altered, and the D Battery will fire the salut* instead from the hill over Roy-street, commencing on the order "present arms" being given to the assembled .troops in the ' Park. The following movements will be carried out: Royal Salute (including the^ firing of 21 funs by D Battery), inspection by Sir an Hamilton, march past in column, march past in quarter column, advance m review order, and the Royal Salute, which will ba followed by tlncc cheers for the King. ' In case it is found necessary to cancel the parade owing to inclement weather, the' following signals will be given : (a) Royal Salute will be fired by the R.N.Z.A. at Mount Cook Barracks, at 7 a.m. Should this course be necessary, the general officer commanding will notify tho officer commanding R.N.Z.A. at 6.50 a.m. ; (b) a red flag- under the Union Jack will be flown at the flagstaff Defence Headquarters at 7 a.m. ; (c) a red fl*g will be hoisted on flagstaff of the General Post Office at 8 a.m. A rehearsal of Wednesday's ceremonial was held by the Territorials at Lyall Bay on Saturday afternoon. Owing to the inclement weather there was a small muster, only 200 men, with a large proportion of officers, putting in an appearance. The movements accordingly were conducted in "skeleton" battalions, and passed off successfully.
