SATURDAY'S GAMES Hospital (17) v. Rovers (0). Corinthians (5) v. Brooklyn (1). Diamonds (5) v. Petone (2). V.M.C.A. (1) v. Thistle (1). Wanderers v. Swifts wa6 not played. ■Weather conditions were not too pleasant on Saturday, a strong northerly being greatly an evidence, but the rain had not mado much impression on the grounds, except the Basin Reserve, where the Wan-derers-Swifts game could not be played. Play generally was of an interesting character, though in < some cases the scores were very uneven 1 . CORINTHIANS (5) v. BROOKLYN (1). This game was played on Kilbirnie Park, which was in very fair condition, and proved to be interesting throughout. Corinthians were too big and too strong, and knew too much for iheir opponents, but they did not have it all their own way, and were made aware many times during the game that any slackness would bo their undoing. Scores came freely during the first spell. Soon after starting a' nice bit of passing irom Wells to Rickerby and O'Shea resulted in the Jast-named scoring from the centre. A few minutes later Ballard beat the goalkeeper with comparative ea6e, as also did Andrews shortly afterwards, liefore the end of the spell O'Shea, after a really good bit of combined play, in the centre, sco Ted the fourth goal for Corinthians. After the second spell had been going for _ some little time, Brooklyn scored their first (and last) goal. The ball was taken up the centre, the backs were passed, the Corinthians goalkeeper (Hodge), ran out about six yards, Bald' win kicked the ball over his head, and Brooklyn had scored. After that. Ballard scored another goal for Corinthians, and the game ended : Corinthians, 5 ; Brooklyn, 1. Mr. A. E. Wells controlled the- game. HOSPITAL (17) v. ROVERS (0). A record for Porirua was made on Saturday when , Hospital had the easiest possible victory over Rovers, whom they vanquished by 17 goals to love. Of these, 8 were obtained in tho first spell. The city team showed splendid combination at the start, but Hospital asserted themselves and the forwards made a, fine run, Skinner's shot finding the net. Hospital still kept up the pressure and Daily scored. 2—o.2 — 0. Then Hughes netted. 3-^O. The fourth score was obtained by Skinner. The other scores in this spell were by Hughes, Heath (2 goals), and Elliott. There were occasional dashes by the visitors, but the forwards showed a tendency to hang on too long, 'and thereby gave the country men plenty of time in .which to tackle. In the second half Hospital added 9 more goals, taking charge of the game and practically doing what they liked. The scoring in this spell was done by Hughes, who got five goals, making his total for th t e afternoon no less than seven; Skinner (2, or 4 for the day), Heath, and Daily (1 each). Mr. Lithgow was referee. DIAMONDS (5), PETONE (2). Diamonds met Petone on the Petone Recreation Ground > and easily, defeated them by 5 goals. to 2. The ground was very heavy and the ball greasy. Play in the first half was even, neither side at any time' having a decided advantage. Diamonds scored first, Lowe sending the ball home with a fine shot from tho left wing. This was followed immediately by Howett (Petone) finding the t net from a- free kick by Conway. At half-time Diamonds ■ had again, established a lead. From ' ' a well-pfSced corner by Lowe, Shaw headed through the corner of the posts./ In the second spoil Diamonds had matters practically their own way, although Petone drew even within a few minutes from the kick-off. This goal was secured by M'Gill, who beat the keeper with a stinging shot, From this out the game ,was very one-sidedi Diamonds' third was secured by Lowe by a ..shot irom the wing. Shaw headed through his second goal from a corner by Livergage. The final goal came a few mi«uteß from time, when Morison beat Petone's keeper with a fast ground shot. Mr. F. O'Connell was referee. THISTLE-Y.M.C.A. BATTLE. A hotly-contested battle was provided by Thistle and .V.M.C.A. on No. 2 ground, Kilbirnie, the game, in fact, being the fastest yet played this season. Owing to the strong wind blowing across the field the play was not as accurate as it might otherwise have been, but, notwithstanding this, some excellent soccer was witnessed. In the first spell the honours were even ; neither side scored, and in the play neither had any advantage over the other. Numerous shots >vere made at, goal by both sides, but the respective 'goal-keepers never failed to respond to the occasion. The second spell had not been in progress for more than a minute or two when first < blood was drawn. Y/.M.C.A. reversed an attack made by Thistle, and Carruthers put through a .nice shot. Y.M.G.A., 1 goal ; Thistle, nil. Some exceedingly fast play, distinguished by some excel-, lent foot and head work, on both sides, followed, and both Porteous and Hollis were kept busy alternately in defending ♦heir goals. Ultimately, when Thistle were attacking in front of the V.M.C.A. goal, they were awarded a penalty kick, and Reid put the ball through the uprights, equalising tho scores. The game ended : V.M.C.A., ; 1 goal ; Thistle, # 1 goal. Mr. Hutcheson gave every satisfaction with the whistle. • ' ; WANDERERS v. SWIFTS. Owing to the unsatisfactory state of, the ground the match Wanderers V. Swifts, to have been played at the- Basin Reserve, was postponed. JUNIOR GRADE v SECOND DIVISION.
