WESTLAND VALUATIONS
, IIOKITIKA, 28th May. After _ three days' hearing and one day's visit to a poitiou of the county, the* Assessment Couit to-day ruled against the Westiand County Council in .respect to the objections lodged against a number of valuations made by the Valuation , Department. Tho Court held that the Valuation had been fairly carried out and was not inoquitable, and 'that the' council had its remedy in differential rating for any of the ridings. Mr. Murdoch, counsel for Hie County Council, asked leave for appeal on' a_ point of law — that the Court had not arrived at its decision' in accordance with statutory direction/ as affecting the selling values, and he 'quoted Mr. Duthie, Valuer-General, on. the subject. The Court refused leave ,to appeal.
