ATTENDANCE AT UNION MEETINGS
DUNEDIN, 28th May. An interesting test case was brought before Mr. \Vidd<uvi>on, S.M., this morning, to determinclwhether an industrial union had the right to inflict fines on members lor non-attendance at the union- meetings held on Sunday. Tho parties to the dispute were the Otago Tramways Union and Duncan Ingle, a member. The claim was for os only,
the action being a friendly one. Mr. Ilanlon appeared for the defendant, and explained that -there was no direct legal authority on the point, but ho submitted that if a Court of Justice could not fine on "Sunday, an industrial union had no power to penalise a member for non-attendance at a meeting held on Sunday. Judgment was reserved.
