GREAT EXPLOSION
CHEMICAL WORKS DESTROYED SULPHURIC ACID RUN INTO SEWERS MEN ESCAPE THROUGH WINDOWS. (By Telegraph.— Press Association.— Copyright.) OIMES AND SYDNF.Y SUN SERVICES.) LONDON, 31st. March. An explosion of a benzine tank in Yardman and Holden's chemical works in Manchester resulted in the destruction of seven acres of works. Two hundred police kept the crowds back. There were many explosions of creosote, naphthaline, and sulphuric acid, ami the flames shot up one hundred feet high. Dcoris was hurled upwards through the flame*, and uuide it most difficult for the iuemen to work. Ton* of sulphuric acid were turned into the street ce»vers for safety. The damage is estimated at many thousands of pounds. ! The factory workmen escaped by the windows.
