Captain Lambert retires from the Union Company's service from to-morrow. Captain Holmes, of the Komata, will take command of the Mapourika, and Captain Irwin joins the Komata. Captain W. J. Burns, who was master of the Himitangi, has resigned his position, and Captain E. H. Day has been appointed as his successor. Captain Day has lately been acting master of the vessel. Following is a list ofwthe Wellington cargo taken to London by the liner Hawkes Bay, which sailed yesterday ;— 3816 sacks wool, 1047 casks tallow, 351 casks pelts, 300 casks casings, 787 sacks pears, 28,208 carcases mutton, 18,287 carcases lamb, 280 crates kidneys, 26.868 legs mutton, 1000 quarters beef. The Hawkes Bay also loaded at Wanganui, Napier. Gisborne, Auckland, and Lytteltou, and was a full ship when she sailed. THE STAR OF VICTORIA. According to latest advices, the new Tyser steamer Star of Victoria is due in Wellington from London next Saturday. She has a quantity of Home cargo to put out at this port, but providing she is allotted a suitable berth, Hdhieward louding will commence immediately on arrival. The ferry steamer Wahine will be docked at Lyttelton to-morrow morning for cleaning. The steamcf Waimea is now due here next Friday from Tarakohe, via Nelson and Picton. She will sail the same day for Nelbon and tho West Coast. The Tyser liner Nerehana was due at Melbourne yesterday, en route to New Zealand ports, via Sydney. She is expected here about the end of April. The Kurow will sail for Westport to-night, but the Poherua and Kauri will not get away for the Coast until to-morrow. It is expected tnat the Shaw, Savlll, and Albion Company's steamer Matatua wilt get away for London at daybreak to-morrow. Advice has been received by the local agents for the Melbourne Steamship Company that the steamer Melbourne left Newcastle on Monday afternoon for Wellington. She is bringing •a cargo of coal to be put out at Miramar for the Gas Company, The vessel should arrive here on Saturday next. The New Zealand Shipping Company's s.s. Rakaia U now at 'i'okomaiu Bay, where she continues her Homeward loading. The vessel completes her cargo at Napier, Wellington, and Lyttelton, and sails from the latter port for London, Hull, and Newcastle. An exchange reports that the British ship Moeravon (ex John Cooke), 1758 tons, which left Callao on the sth October of last year for Portland (O.), lias been posted missing. Captain Lediugham was in command. In order to meet the convenience of passengers visiting Auckland during Easter, it has been arranged that the Rar.iwa, will leave Onehunga on Wednesday, Bth April, for New Plymouth, instead of at the usual time on the Thursday She will arrive at the Taranaki port on Thursday morning, Oth April, and will leavo on the return trip the same evening, Arriving back at Onehunga on Good Friday morning, loth April. Cable advice has been received stating that the Melaneslan Mission steamer Southern Cross arrived ut Norfolk Island on Sunday from Auckland. The vessel left on Wednesday afternoon last on her periodical visit to the mission stations in the various Island groups. Advice has been received from London stating that the Council of the International Shipping Federation has asked the constituent associations to consider the question of laying up ;t proportion of their ships with a view to improving freight rates.
