LEAGUE FOOTBALL

PROGRESS OF PETONE CLUB. The Petone League Football Club held its second annual meeting last night, Mr. VV. S. Brice presiding over an attendance of about forty. The annual report recorded that great strides had been made by the League game in Petone. In the past year the ' club -had increased from a. membership of twenty until there_ were so many players that the selection of teams had been a matter of difficulty. Among the juniors, who had been well looked after by Messrs. Tovey and Reesby, the A j team had won the championship, with | the B team as runners-up. Very fine performances had been made by the senior team, which showed great improvement upon the previous year s form, and at the end of the year it waa in second position for the championship. Messrs. Proebstal, Miller, Barber, House, and Finlayson had been chosen as the club's representatives for New Zealand representative matches, and Messrs. Whitley, Parker, House, Finlayson, Barber, and Proebstal for Wellington representative play. The report, in remarking upon the promising outlook for the year, stated that a number of new players had been acquired, j including an ex-All Black front-ranker, Mr. Hughes, from Southland. Another senior and a junior team would prob- i ably be entered this season. ' The following officers were elected :—: — President, Mr. B. C. Warnes ; ' vicepresidents, Messrs. Senior, Anderson, Beale, Fraser, Baumber, Wynyard, Swinburne, Cook, Leibezeit, Oakley, Lepper, Finlay, Hey, and Head ; secretary, Mr. J. Guthrie ; treasurer, Mr. W. Beale ; _ management committee, Messrs. Langridge, Childs, Tovey, Reesby. Barber, Fraser, and Beale ; auditor, Mr. W. Clouston; selector, Mr. W. S. Brice ; delegates to Wellington League) Messrs. Brice, Beale, and ToVey. A committee was also set up to go into the question of building a gymnasium, to report at a meeting of the club next Tuesday evening.
