THE MIRAMAR TRAMS
TO THE EDITOR. Sir, — As a resident of Miramar., and one whose business in the city causes him to make daily use of the tramways, I should like to record my protest against the increased fares which will be imposed upon the Miramar people if the now scale is adopted as proposed by the City Council. Under the existing arrangement, we are able to secure a 14-tiip ticket covering four sections of Hie city lines for 3s. The borough tickets give us 12 trips for Is, which means, of course, a penny per trip over the borough lines. Fourteen trips over the city (four sections) and borough lines (one section) consequently cost us 4s 2d. Out of the largeness of their hearts the city fathers now propose to issue for our especial benefit a five-section ticket coveting twelve trips only for 3s 9d. That works out at 3f d per trip ; consequently Miramarites will be called upon to pay 4s 4^d for their fourteen trips instead of 4s 2d as at present, plus possibly additional taxation in the shape of local rating to make §ood the concessions granted to non-residents making use of the borough lines on Saturdays and Sundays. What are our Miramar borough councillors thinking of to permit such an anomalous modification of the existing arrangement. — I am, etc., DISGUSTED. Miramar, 30th March.
