Lord Esher, lecturing at the Sorbonne on "War and Peace," said : "Those who detost war and desire peace should welcome ail alliance between Britain and France, and the conversion of the Triple Entente into a second Triple Alliance, leading ultimately to a concert of all the great Powers based upon Reason and common interests, from which the uncertain element of sporadic action would-be eliminated.*'
