RIFLE SHOOTING TRENTHAM RANGE

UNFAVOURABLE CONDITIONS The weather was not favourable for marksmen at Trentham on Saturday. !In each of the five matches fired the competitors had to contend against n. tricky right wind —typically Trentham — and a bad light. Members of the Karori Club compete/I for the C.A.C. Cup and other trophies. :/fhe first stage of this match is fired over long ranges—seven shots each at 800, 900, and 1000 yards. Rifleman F. W. Ching was top-scorer for the day with 88, but as he is not eligible I'ov this competition, first place goes to Hineman J. C. Low with a score of 86, who won the trophy presented by himself. Rifleman Low redonated the tiophy to the next highest scratch man, and the winner is therefore Rifleman J. G. Faulknor with a score of 84. Tlip prize to the highest handicap man goes to_ Rifleman George Jones, who also wins an ammunition prise. The "shoot oil" between President Marshall and Rifleman R. Rjandell for fifth place in the second series was won by the former by three points. Ex-New Zealand champion George Halliday made a welcome reappearance on the range after a?.i absence of two years. Another interested visitor was Mr. W. A. Farquhar, who has taken a prominent part in rifle shooting in' Victoria, and is now located in Wellington. Scores: —

The Highland Club concluded the season's shooting on Saturday with a competition for Government money, under Service conditions, ten shots at 500 and 600 yards ranges. The championship was won by Riflemari J. Cotterell, Rifleman J. Pitt acting as runner-up. The short-range aggregate was won by Rifleman T. J. Chapman, and the long-range aggregate by Rifleman G.
