PRODUCE MARKETS HIGH COMMISSIONER'S CABLED REPORT.

The Department of Agriculture, Industries, and Commerce, has received the following cablegram from the High Commissioner for New Zealand, dated London, 28th March, 1914. v (Quotations, unless otherwise specified, are average market prices on" spot.) Mutton. — As a result of heavy arrivals, together with a poor demand, prices have declined. Canterbury, per lb, 4id; North Island, 4*d. There is a dull sale for heavy carcases of n^utton, which may be quoted at : Canterbury, per lb, 4^d ; others, 4d. Lamb.— There is a dull sale for all lamb and an indication to force sales, with a Vesult that prices have' declined. Canterbury, per lb, two's, 6^d ; heavyweights. 6d ; other than Canterbury, 6i-d for light weight. Beef.— There has been no alteration in the beef market since last week. New Zealand hindquarters, per lb, 4^d ; forequarters, 3|d. Chilled hindquarters, 5d per lb ; forequarters. 3Jd. ■ Butter. — There has been alteration in the market since last week. Danish market, steady^ per cwt, 122s to 1245; Siberian, 106s to 110s; Australian, 104s to 108s ; New Zealand, 107s to 110s ; exceptionally choice, 112s; Argentine, 104s to 108s. Cheese.— There has been no alteration in the market since last week. Canadian white, per cwt, 68s to 70s ; coloured, 70s to 71s; finest New Zealand white, 61s 6d. to 62s 6d; fine white, 61s; finest coloured, 64s 6d to 655; fine coloured, 635; Australian, 60s to 635. Hemp. — The market is steady ; there is not much demand, but for New Zealand prices are firm. Manila.' — The market is dull on account of the largo supply on hand and the continued increase in sisal production. Fair current, per ton, £26 10s, nominal quotation for all positions. New Zealand : Good fair, per ton, £26 ; fair, £23. Sisal : New York quotations, 5.50 cents; quotations here about £26 per ton. Mexican sisal shipments for February, 94,326 bales against 41,869 for the same month last year.
