ANTARCTIC EXPLORATION
SIR, E. SHACKLETON'S FLAGSHIP. (By Telegraph.— Press Association.— Copyright.) LONDON, 28th March. Apropos of the plans referred to on 6th February, Router's Christiania correspondent telegraphs that Sir Ernest Shackleton has bought the Polaris as a flagship. v [It was reported on 6th February :—: — Sir Ernest Shackleton has decided to purchase the recently-built Norwegian ice Vessel Polaris for his coming Polar expedition. The vessel will be converted to use oil fuel, and renamed the Endurance. She will be employed under Captain Davis's command in the Weddell Sea. The Aurora will probably be selected for the work in the Ross Sea, or, failing her, Admiral Peary's Roosevelt, which is under offer. The Endurance will be manned by Navy men, and the Ross Sea ship by Merchant Service men. Captain Orde Lees, of the Royal Marines, and head of the Deal Motor School, who is also an expert Alpinist, has joined the expedition. Several of Scott's and Mawson's men have applied for positions, and two of the latter have been selected for the scientific staff.]
