EXECUTIONS IN GERMANY
ABOLITION OF PRESENT SYSTEM URGED. (By Telegraph.— Press Association.— Copyright.) (TIMES AND SYDNEY SUN SERVICES.) - \ t BERLIN, 28th March. There is an agitation at present for the abolition of the headsman, sword, and block in cases of capital punishment. At an execution, which is staged in the courtyard of a penitentiary, the condemned "person" is thrown, face downwards, on a bench, with a cupshaped hole for the head. The body is strapped, and then a masked headsman raises a heavy sword to the level of his chin, and lets the razor-like edge drop.
