LOWER HUTT FIREMEN PRESENTING THE BALDWIN CUP.
A pleasant function took place at Lower Hutt last evening, when the Baldwin Cup (recently won oufcright by the Hutt Fire Brigade) and olher trophies were presented. In making the presentation of the cup, Mr. Bunny (Mayor of Lower Hutt) stated that the brigade was formed in 1905 through the instrumentality of Mr. J. A. M'Donald (then Mayor) and Mr. H. Baldwin. The brigade started with a membership of twenty, and the captain (Mr. T. Slinn) had led the brigade ever since its inception. Mr. H. Baldwin, donor of the trophy, also addressed the gathering, stating that his object in presenting the trophy was to promote friendly rivalry and healthy competition among the brigadesmen. w , The cup war received on behalf of thto' winning team (Captain Slinn,- Foreman^ Doran, and Assistant -Foreman Collett)! by the former, while other trophies were presented to the following : — Foreman Doran, Lieutenant M'llvride, and Fir*;, men Bawker, Colletb. Wheeler, and Seager. Aftei the presentation had been made those present were entertained by the Mayor and councillors.
