A very successful auction sale of gift stock was held at Carterton on Thursday afternoon, under the auspices of the Wairarapa and East' Coast P. and A. Society. There was a good attendance of the public, and bidding in teany cases was spirited, the, same line being auctioned several times. Mr. M. D. MacGoun, dentist, has disposed of his practice here and is about to take up his residence in Napier. The Wairarapa Racing Club lias engaged the services of the Carterton Brass Band for the Easter meeting. Mr. W. 0. Bayliss, the well-known breeder of Holstein cattle, Parkvale, is relinquishing dairy farming in order to take up sheep farming. The Mayor and borough councillors of Carterton have received an invitation to be present at the cadet inspection at Masterton on 25th May. when Sir lan Hamilton will be present. ' Some 984 crates of unease are bping railed away from the Carterton Railway Station this week for consignment Home in the s.s. Kiakoura. The Daleficld factory is sending 350, crates. Belvedere 250, Parkvale 180, Cairington 70, Longbush 24. Mr. W. Porter, of Newtown. Wellington, has been appointed assistant at r the Gaiterton gasworks.
