SUPPOSED LAUNCH DISASTER
UNAVAILING SEARCH. (BY TELBGIHPH.- PRESS ASSOCIATION.) TAURANGA, 26th March. Constable Skinner and party returned at 5 o'clock, bringing the launch Victory, belonging to Mr. W. Paterson, of Motiti Island, which was found bottom up on the beach at Matakana Island. Search was made all day on the beaches on both sides of the harbour, but proved unavailing. An other parfjy found on the beach off Matakana Island a lifebuoy, mast, and a tin of benzine. The j boots in the boat were recognised as belonging to Mutu and Jack (Natives), and H. Grey. The latter was employed by Mr. Paterson on the island. The I clothes belong to Mutu. It is surmised that the launch foundered on entering the harbour on Tuesday or Wednesday. No- I thing can be known definitely until com- j munication is made with Motiii, but the sea at present is too rough for small j craft. It is hoped to dispatch a vessel in the morning to the island.
