PRESENTATION TO MR. W. A. KENNEDY
♦l Learning that Mr. W. A. Kennedy, the general manager of the Union Steam Ship Company in Wellington, was about to take a holiday, his confreres in the shipping business in the city gathered at the Grand Hotel this morning to wish him "bon voyage." Mr. W. E. Fuller, chairman of the Wellington branch of the New Zealand Shipowners' Federation, presided, and after stating the purpose of the meeting called on Mr. W. A Flavell to propose the health of the guest. Tri doing so Mr. Flavell referred to Mr. Kennedy's good qualities and to the esteem in which he was held by others having interests in the ships and shipping of the port, and requested Mr. Kennedy to accept, as a token of the appreciation in which he was held, a handsome suit case, with silver-mounted appointments. Messrs. W. Bennett and N. Galbraith also spoke of the appreciation m which Mr. Kennedy was held. Mr. Kennedy, in reply, thanked those present for their handsome gift, and stated that when he was asked to meet his fellow shipowners prior to leaving for his holiday he had not the- faintest idea that there was any intention of making him a presentation. He thanked the donors most heartily and said it would serve to remind him of many pleasant associations with them and of some strenuous times they had had together.
