WAIHI, This Day. The work of overhauling^ the machinery on the Waihi Reefs Gigantic property has been completed, and a start made to raise the water which had accumulated in the main shaft. At the present rate of progress, the water should be raised within a fortnight, and as soon as the manager has ascertained the nature of the country at the bottom of the shaft (depth 914 feet) tenders will be called for sinking, the intention being to go down to 1200 or 1250 feet, and then open out for the Waihi Reef system with crosscuts.
