CIT TELEGfUPH.— PRESS 4SSOCHTION.) ' CHRISTCHURCH. 24th March. The competition for -the Savile Cup polo tournament was resumed to-day on Hagley Park. The weather was fine when the first game began, but rain during the night and morning resulted in the playing ground being wet and sodden. As a consequence, the going was heavy, and the turf was soon much cut up. HAWKES BAY C v. TIPAPA. The teams were :—Tipapa-:: — Tipapa- : W. Acton Adams, H. F. Olney. C. F. D. Rax, C. C. Campbell. Hawkes Bay C : L. M'Lean, A. M. Shield, F. Price, G. M. Pharazyn, Play opened somewhat quietly until Pharazyn shot the ball down the field, and as the Tipapa defence at the moment was weak, Price had no difficulty in scoring. Hawkes Bay, 1 ; Tipapa. 0. The spell finished without further addition to the score. The early stages of the second spell were fairly even. Just on time an opening presented itself to Pharazyn. who shot a fine goal. Hawkes Bay, 3 ; Tipapa 0. For some time Tipapa was on the defensive after the next spell started, but Campbell got the ball going down-field, and followed up brilliantly, but just failed to score. Shortly afterwards Hawkes Bay made a fine rush up-field, and Pharazyn again seeded. Hawkes Bay, 4; Tipapa, 0. Tipapa livened up at the opening of the fifth spell, but Hawkes Bay proved too good for them, and scored another goal. Hawkes Bay, 5; Tipapa 0. Shortly afterwards Pharazyn scored once more. Hawkes Bay, 6; Tipapa, 0. Tipapa's chance came, in the early stages of the sixth spell, when Acton Adams scored. Hawke 3 Bay, 7; Tipapa, 1. The balance of the game was all in favour of Hawkes Bay, who continued to pile up goals until the total was— Hawkes Bay, 12; Tipapa, 1, CHRISTCHURCH v. RANGIORA A. The teams were : — Christchurch : T. Rhodes, C. Teschemaker, H. Little, and Captain Onslow. Rangiora A : J. D. M'Cracken, O. M. Hope, H. Ensor, and A. Fear. The first spell was unsensational, and ,was ( resultless. In the second spell Christchurch missed several excellent chances by narrow margins, Onslow showing up conspicuously. Soon 'after the third spell opened Rhodes scored for Christchurch. Early in the fourth spell Little showed up well, and on two occasions, with but brief intervals between them, narrowly missed scoring again. Just as the bell sounded he failed by about a yard to get between the posts. When play in the fifth spell had been going for some time, Onslow, with a brilliant rush, scored. Christchurch 2, Rangicra 0. Soon after, Rhodes shot a nice goal, and made the score : .Christchurch 3, Rangiora, 0. Just on the finish of the sixth spell, Onslow was again successful in scoring. Christchurch 4, Rangiora 0. Rangiora attacked strongly in the early part of the final spell, and good work was done by Hope, who eventually, with a really good shot, scored. ' Christchurch 4, Rangiora 1. Soon* after, Onslow got the ball between the posts. Christchurch 5, Rangiora 1. The bell went almost immediately, the tally being Christchurch 5, Rangiora 1. HAWKES BAY B v. HAWARDEN. The teams in this game were : — Hawkes Bay: W. G. Stead, 0. Nelson, J. Lyons, E. Nairn. Hawarden : T. Davison, E. Davison, G. L. Rutherford, C. 0. Rutherford. Play opened keenly, and in a few minutes Nelson placed a goal. Hawkes Bay 1, Hawarden 0. Stead took the ball well up-field within a few yards of the posts, and Nairn shot a goal. Hawkes Bay 2, Hawarden 0. Soop after Hawarden's chance came, E. Davison shooting a pretty goal. Hawkes Bay 2, Hawarden 1. A fast rush by Stead and a well-directed long shot by him increased the Hawkes Bay total to three, goals. An exciting rush along the line, in which' Hawkes Bay showed good combination, occurred early in the third spell, but Lyons lost- the ball near the posts. Hawarden's territory was vigorously besieged for a time, goals being narrowly missed on several occasions. Wild play ensued and characterised the remainder of the spell. Just before the bell went Nairn headed a strong fast rush, which looked like busi ness, but he just failed to score. Fa*b play marked' the opening of the sixth spell, and from a melee , Nelson shot a goal. Hawkes Bay 4,' Hawarden 1. Towards* the end of the spell Stead, from out of a' melee, shot a nice goal, making the score : Hawkes Bay 5, Hawarden 1. A fine rush by C. 0. T. Rutherford followed immediately, and he just missed scoring. , A fine piece of play by F. Davison, however, resulted in a goal. Hawkes Bay 5, Hawarden 2. A minute or two" afterwards, whilst heading a fast . rush, Davison came down, but was not hurt. The final spell opened quietly, but Hawkes Bay had the advantage of a throw-in, and Nelson scored. Hawkes Bay 6, Hawaiden 2. A fine rush up-field by E. Davison resulted in a well-placed goal. Hawkes Bay 6, Hawarden 3. With two minutes to go, play was made fast, and Hawarden made a game effort to increase its total, E. Davison taking the ball well down-field, and just missing a goal.
