LOWER HUTT BOROUGH
MEETING OF THE COUNCIL. The Lower Hutt Borough Council • met last evening, when the following were present ; — The Mayor (Mr. 15. P. • Bunny) and Councillors HodgiiiE>, Mcldrum, Clendon, Hobba, Purely, Parson- > age, Kempthorne, and Dawson. The Secretary of the Education De- • pal'tment wrote advising that the sub1 sidy on account of the library amounting 5 to £17 13a 5d would be paid over very I shortly* A request by the secretary of the St. Patrick s Day Celebration Sports Committee, that, owing to the receipts from ; the gathering being very much below an» 5 ticipations on account of the unfavour1 able weather, the council forego the 25 . per cent, of the gate takings, was agreed } to. L A communication was received from j the secretary of the Wellington Motor 1 Cycling Club, who asked for the coun- [ oil's views upon a proposed scheme of sign posting the Wellington district, and also for its permission to erect such posts within the borough as may be considered advantageous. It was decided to grant " the permission asked for, the work to 5 bo carried out subject to the approval of 3 the engineer. Reporting upon the work of the past 5 fortnight, the engineer (Mr. W. J. 5 Roche) stated that the laying of the 6in " gas main was now completed, and had 1 been connected up with the 6in pipe at V ' the junction at Woburn-road. A con- " nection had also been made with Lang's- ' road. Eight chains of the old 4in main 1 had been taken up and forty services s connected with the new main. The cost ' of the work to date was £473 7s 9d. The work of kerbing and channelling Wake-field-street would be completed early in the coming week as there now remained > only the finishing of the road formation • and some straightening up. The work ( of clearing the roads on tho Willoughby . Knight Estate had been completed, while the whole of the creeks in the borough had been cleared ready for the winter.
