WORKERS' HOMES
IN COUNTRY DISTRICTS. The extension of tho system of workers' homes to country districts was the subject of some interesting remarks by the Right Hon W. F. Massey, in conversation with a Post representative today. "I have," he said, "bought a piece of land at Willowbridge, South Canterbury, and I have had it cut up into five-acre sections. On each section, there will be a worker's home, costing approximately £300. AH the Willowbridge sections have been applied for and taken up, and contracts have been let for the erection of the house. Each prospective settler 'has to put up a deposit of £20, and the balance will be paid weekly over a term of twentyfive years. "This system of settlement promises to be a great success," said the Prime Minister. "I am about to try another experiment on the same lines at Masterton, where I propose to establish six of these workers' homes. The land has been purchased, and in tho near future a start will be mado> in giving effect to ' the project."
