BOWLING

CHAMPION OF CHAMPIONS. The final for the Singles Championship of the Centre was played on the Wellington Club's green after The Post went to press yesterday. Crawford (Karori) met Barnes (Hataitai), and an interesting game was the result. Both men had been playing well during the day, and well deserved their wins, Crawford being slightly the favourite. Barnes, however, had established a lead of 6 to 3 on the sixth head, but Crawford settled down to work, and on the tenth head was one up— B to 7. On the fifteenth head he had increased his score to 15, and Barnes had only scored a couple, but in the next three , heads Barnes put on five .points, leaving him only one behind and two heads to go. Crawford was drawing close to the jack, forcing Barnes to drive, but he was not successful, and at the end of the twentieth head Crawford was lying one — 16-15. In the 3ast head Crawford drew the shot behind the jack, and with his last two bowls Barnes tried to rest it out, but failed (17*14), and Crawford was Champion of Champions. The game was well contested throughout, and was watched with keen interest by a large number of bowling enthusiasts, who heartily congratulated both players on their excellent display.
