After a rather lengthy voyage of 46 days from London, the United Tyser steamer Star of Australia arrived afc Melbourne yesterday, en route to AVellinaton. The local agents, who received this advice, anticipate that the vessel will be here on the 12th February. She calls afc Sydney, Auckland, and Napier to discharge. MAKARINI IN PORT. Yesterday the Tyer steamer Makarini arrived in Wellington from London via ports. The vessel has a small cargo to put out here, and on completion of operations, will commence loading. She will sail for AVanganui to continue loading on Wednesday, and will subsequently visit other Coastal ports before returning to Wellington. PERSONAL. Mr. n. Noah, acting purser on the Canada 'Cape, has signed off that vessel's articles, and will return to Sydney by the Manuka next Friday. The Union collier Kamona, which leffc Port Chalmers on Saturday afternoon to load coal at Westport, Is commanded by Captain A. R. Pryde, who is assisted by Mr. A. H. Scales (chief), Mr. W. Hyslop (second), and Mr. A. V. Hay (third). Mr. H»y was the first Amokura boy to obtain a second mate's certificate. Mr. V. S. Siepen'has joined the Aparima at Lyttelton as second officer in place of Mr. H. A. Daniels, who Went ashore to sit for his master's certificate. Captain Gordon, late of the Petone,, is now in charge of the Breeze, having succeeded Captain Broadhouse, who went ashore at Lyttelton. Mr. C. Rule lias signed on the Warrimoo as assistant purser. Rltson, fifth engineer of the vessel also signed off the articles. t The next Tyser boat to load in Wellington will be the Indrapura, due here on Thursday next from Napier. The vessel is fixed to sail for London on the following Monday. As Thursday next is a general holiday, the Monowai's departure for northern ports has been postponed until Friday, at 5 p.m. For the same reason, the Nikau will miss a trip to Nelson and Motueka next week. During the month of November last the Board of Trade received reports of the loss of 32 British vessels (22 sailers and 10 steamers), representing a net tonnage of 60^3 tons. These involved the loss of the lives of eight persons. The figures include the losses of six sailing vessels of 1117 tons, belonging to British possessions abroad, involving the loss of the lives of three persons. Having completed the discharge of her locally consigned New York cargo, the Star of Ireland sailed yesterday for Lyttelton, and thence Dunedin and Nelson. The New Zealand Shipping Company advises that the Turakina will not arrive in Wellington from Lyttelton until Wednesday next, Her departure for London has 1 consequently been postponed until Saturday next. The vessel takes in frozen meat at Whangarei, and then loads down the coast, culling at Wellington during the last week of the present month.
