— _«. OPAWA'S MEN TWELVE SET AT LIBERTY. Following on the reduction of bail grfir.ieri by Mr. J. S. Evans, S.M., tw-ilve out of the thirteen nipn of the Opawa. who were in the Terrace Gaol awaiting tiial on charges of disobeying lawful commands, were set at liberty yesterday afternoon. The bail was reduced lo £5 each, and the £65 was deposited by the Seamen's Union, through the secretary. Mr. W. T. Young. CHRISTCHURCH WATERSIDERS CONTROL OF NEW UNION. The decision of the -new watersiders union to admit any person of good character, in^ aeeor<>Hnce with advice from the Labour Depnitment and Crown Law Officers, makes it certain that the exstrikers will control that body within ,the next few days. The union will probably contain about 600 men shortly, 400 being members oi the old Stevedores' Union. The ex-strikers do not appear to have been aggressive in word or action, but it is stated on <;ood authority that a change of officers will he made this week. The present president and secretary were elected^ by the arbitrationists during the strikf. LYTTELTON WHARF PASSES STILL NECESSARY. (tX TELEGRAPH— PRESS ASSOCIATION.) CHRISTCHURCH. This Day. Members of the old waterside union met to-day and decided that all should apply for membership of the new union at once. If no further obstacle is raised by the arbitrationists or employers the it' .v union will contain all the Lyttelton '-. ' raiders before the strike. A meeting is called for Thursday n n i, when the arbitration president wiil tender his resignation. Meantime the police still refuse to admit any but holders of passes to the wharves, where the union has its headquarters. Passes are not issued to the leaders of the old union. As negotiations for a final settlement are hampered to some extent the new president and secretary had a conference with the old president and secretary today.
