CONCESSIONS TO RIFLE CLUBS

♦ — — REPRESENTATIONS TO THE GOVERNMENT. Two questions of some importance to Hifle Clubs have just been adjusted. Negotiations have for some time been proceeding between the New Zealand fttfle Club's Executive ami the Minister of Defence. The minister (the Hon. James Allen) has communicated to President H. Marshall, chairman of the Rifle Clubs' Executive, the result as follows : — -Bifle Clubs are relieved from liability for accidents to markers on ranges that have been approved and passed by the Defence Department, when regulations governing shooting on riile ranges have been rigidly adhered to. Free railway passes will be granted to rifle clubs for friendly teams' matches. This news will give much satisfaction to rifle clubs, At present, many of them *re paying a heavy insurance premium on their markers, a tax of which they will now be relieved, under the conditions stated. The issue of free railway passes for teams' matches obtained in the Dominion for many years, until cancelled about three years ago. It is considered that the adjustment of these matters in this shape will greatly assist in •gain placing rifle shooting in New Zealand in ths- strong position in which it >nee stood.

An addition to the City Council's motor fleet has been made in the new tramway and overhead gear tower wagon. The chasm is one of the Argyll 30 h.p. worm-drive typa. and on this nas been built a neat folding and con•.ractitig towei designed by Mr. J. C. iussell, overhead equipment superintentent.
