The crosscut from No. 5 to No. 4 shaft at the 1300 feet level in the Waihi mine is being advanced through the Dreadnought reef, and so far about 9 feet of quartz has been exposed, with only one wall to hand. At the corresponding point in the level overhead the reef was small and poor, and it is thus evident that it ib gaining rapidly in strength going down. The ore is of better appearance.
