Prior to his departure, Mr. A. Fischer (Uniofi Minister for the Interior) was interviewed on tho subject of South Afrwfcn Asiatic restrictions. He said thaffit was in vain for Indians to think that* the Immigration Act was likely to be materially altered. "The spirit of South Africa," he said, "is rather to make its provisions stricter." Asked if South Africa would welcome an Indian official to enquire into , the matter, Mr. Fischer replied : "Certainly not. It is a matter for tho Government to deal with itself. The Government would resent any interference, although it would possibly discuss the question with the Imperial Government."
