AN AMERICAN TRILBY
SUING FOR A DIVORCE, From being a source of pride to an adoring husband, tho " perfect foot " has disturbed tho domestio felicity of Mr. and Mrs. Nat Houston, and the wife has filed a suit for divorce in the Chicago courts, as tho result of her husband's prohibition of public display of tho shapely member. Mrs. Houston, according to the Chicago correspondent of the London Chronicle, was formerly a, well-known stage model, and her beauty captivated Mr. Houston, who is a wealthy banker and rancher, of Omaha and Denver, and nephew ot the famous Sam Houston, President of the old Republic of Texas. Last July the Chiropodists' Convention declared that Mrs. Houston's foot whb perfect in all respects, and the lady consonted to have it photographed for tho newspapers. This exasperated the husband, who, as j soon as ho read of tho incident, telegraphed from Omaha: — "Friend wife, — Congratulations on shoving best foot forward. Nothing liko notoriety, no matter how cheap." There had been previous trouble over a wish by the wife to engage in business as a chiropodist, and the newspaper photographs completed the estrangement. Mrs ; Houston declares that she has a letter in which her husband agreed to psiy her £1000 in the event; of their married life proving unhappy. She now insists on a £2000 settlement.
