LAND BALLOT
NAPIER, 26th February. The ballot for sections in the Sherenden Settlement was held at the Lands Office this afternoon. This was the first ballot held in Napier under the new Land Laws Amendment Act, and was carried out in the presence of a large number of interested applicants. The total number of applicants was seventy-nine ; of these the number admitted to the ballot as being landless and having, children dependent upon them, or who had, within the preceding two years, been twice unsuccessful in former ballots, was thirtyi'our. The number of landless applicants
who were ineligible for preference was twenty-seven, and the number who withdrew their applications or were rejected by the board was eight. Section 3, block vIL, Matapiro, 373 acrp.s_, was drawn by Joseph' Moliier, of Wellington, tobacconist.
