FIRE ON THE MATATUA
AUCKLAND, 26th February. In connection with the steamer Matatua, which was reported to be on fire at Timaru yesterday, ' the hemp cargo shipped at Auckland is covered by insurances at the offices of the Alliance Insurance Company and the South British Insurance Company. The Alliance Company has the hemp insured to the value of about £4000. The quantity of copra aboard was t insured in the Islands, so that the figures are not available locally. TIMARU, 26th February. The discharging of "fire and water damaged flax from the Matatua was proceeding to-day. From sixty to seventy more or less fire-damaged bales were got out ; come Were but little charred, and others soaked. Work %\as hampered by tangled flax through broken bands.
